Today is Where My Book Begins

Everyday we are inundated by commercials on TV and radio. I tend to ignore them or casually listen/watch. I recently heard a commercial that made me pause. It was actually several commercials for different products from the same company. I heard it for a couple of weeks before I finally googled the words and found the title and full lyrics. It was January 2, and as I read the lyrics I realized it was such an appropriate song to mark the beginning of the year.

Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten…

A year from now I want the following words to fill the pages of my book.

I made 2008 the best year of my life
I became a homeowner
I did work that I enjoyed and was fulfilled
I made friendships that will last a lifetime and I rekindled old relationships
I learned how to harness & release the power within me
I found new reasons to smile and laugh
I learned to smile without provocation
I learned more
I did more
I gave more
I flourished mentally, physically, spiritually, socially
I opened my heart
I launched a new business venture
I coached and mentored students to success
I received lots of testimonies from my clients on how I was able to help them
I cultivated relationships and discarded weeds
I became a better friend, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, etc.
I walked in my purpose and pursued my passion
I fell in love and it was reciprocated
I increased my income significantly
I traveled to new and exciting places

Unwritten

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else

Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Oh, oh, oh

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else

Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken

Who would have thought that inspiration would be found in a song off a Pantene hair commercial.

Let's get it in 'o8.
